FORESTVILLE, CA (January 25, 2002) - Visitors en route to the new tasting room at Hartford Family Wines in Forestville are amazed at the change in scenery along River Road off Highway 101.  The scenery transforms from traditional Sonoma wine country to rolling hills with a coastal feel reminiscent of Vermont.

Once the visitor arrives in this New England-like setting, they find a picturesque family-owned winery tucked away in the quiet Green Valley sub-appellation of the Russian River AVA, 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean.  Hartford Family Wines specializes in  small-lots of award winning single-vineyard Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and old-vine Zinfandel.  Founded in 1993 by Don Hartford, his wife Jennifer Hartford and his sister-in-law Laura Jackson-Giron, Hartford Family Wines produces Hartford and Hartford Court wines.  The family's goal is to make rich, lush and flavorful wines that express the character of their vineyards.

Hartford Family Wines have repeatedly won prestigious awards for their creativity, intense varietal character and terroir expression of the vineyards.  Winemaker Mike Sullivan hand crafts all Hartford Family Wines using traditional Burgundian techniques and selects only the best quality fruit from low-yielding, cool climate vineyards in Russian River and Sonoma Coast locations.  Only small blocks within special vineyards are the sources for the single-vineyard wines, therefore resulting in very small bottlings.

Visitors to the new tasting room are treated to some of those award-winning, hard-to-find wines including the 1999 Sonoma Coast Laura's Chardonnay and the 1998 Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard Zinfandel.  Both wines are recent recipients of the Sweepstakes Award at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair.  The 1999 Arrendell Vineyard Pinot Noir is also available for tasting (the 1994 vintage was served at the White House).  In addition, various other hard-to-find wines are available to the visitors for tasting.

The new tasting room is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, closed on major holidays.  Hartford Family Wines is located at 8705 Martinelli Road, Forestville, CA 95436.  For additional information, visitors may call the winery at (707) 887-1756.
