Santa Rosa, Calif. (March 28, 2001) - Camelot, the California entry brand
from the Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates Collection, now offers a 2000 vintage
Sauvignon Blanc and a 1999 vintage Syrah, adding to its premium priced
line-up of California appellation Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and
Cabernet Sauvignon.
The new varietals maintain Camelot's premium pricing philosophy,
which finds every wine in the series available at retail for $8.99,
although frequent promotional pricing finds Camelot on special for as low
as $6.99.
Winemaker Michael Leven has crafted a classic Rhone style Syrah
with touches of Petite Sirah, Grenache, Valdigue and Viognier added for
depth and complexity. Camelot Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in Stainless
Steel and has a touch of Semillon, giving the wine a fruit forward,
slightly herbaceous but varietally correct style.
Camelot wines are finished with synthetic corks to assure quality,
and each varietal is now offered in a unique color-coded package that
evokes the flavors within the bottle.
"Our focus for Camelot is to make wines that are consistently
flavorful, approachable and affordable," said Leven. "Each year I complete
the harvest with a specific Camelot style in mind," he added. "My goal is
to deliver a wine that exceeds expectations, and excites the consumer."
