Kendall-Jackson Tops In California Wine Winners 2002
Survey Covers Top Nine California Wine Competitions

Santa Rosa, Calif. (December 5, 2001) - Kendall-Jackson Winery earned first place honors in the annual survey of wine competitions conducted by Varietal Fair and published in the popular guidebook "California Wine Winners 2002:  Best of the 2001 Judgings."
Kendall-Jackson won the top ranking with a total of 630 points for 55 distinct wines, besting Geyser Peak, ranked second with 517 points.  Kendall-Jackson won top honors from 1994 through 1997, and for the period from 1994 to 2001, earned 1,035 points, more than any other winery.
Editor J.T. Devine assembles results from the top nine California wine competitions each year and assigns points for gold, silver and bronze medals earned.  Ranked competitions, which begin in February and end in late June each year, include California, Los Angeles and Orange County Fairs, along with the Riverside, San Francisco and New World Internationals, West Coast Wine Competition and the San Diego Competition.
This is the 19th year the guidebook has been published.
"We're honored by our showing in this strictest of judging environments," said Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates President John Grant, noting that top competitions follow rigid blind-tasting protocols, and include varied panels representing winemakers, retailers, wine writers and other industry specialists.
While best known for its Vintner's Reserve® Chardonnay, which won medals in eight of the nine competitions rated in 2001, Kendall-Jackson also demonstrated quality winemaking across the board, winning medals for Vintner's Reserve®, Grand Reserve and Great Estates versions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Red Meritage, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, and Collage® style blends of Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz and Zinfandel/Shiraz.  Also winning awards were Vintner's Reserve® and Grand Reserve versions of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Fume Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Semillon, White Meritage, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Muscat.
The California Wine Winners Guide to the Best of the 2001 Judgings is available at bookstores, or by contacting Varietal Fair at (707) 823-8795.
Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates produces a quality-focused portfolio of premium wines crafted from hillside and coastal growing regions in California, Italy, Chile, Argentina and Australia.  Along with Kendall-Jackson, which features Collage®, Vintner's Reserve®, Grand Reserve, Great Estates* and Stature* wines, KJWE offers Camelot and Pepi brands with California appellations, Sonoma County's La Crema Winery, Edmeades from Mendocino's Anderson Valley, Villa Arceno from Tuscany, Italy, Yangarra Park from Australia, and South American wineries Calina from Chile and Tapiz from Argentina.
