Messina Hof Winery Wins Third Consecutive Top Wine of Texas Award

Reigning Grand Champion First Winery to Achieve Three-Saddles

 

 

HOUSTON — (March 1, 2006) Claiming its third consecutive win, Messina Hof‘s Tawny Texas Port is the Top Wine of Texas at the third annual Rodeo Uncorked Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) International Wine Competition.  Messina Hof won a total of seven Champion recognitions.   

This is the first three-time win in the history of the international wine competition. The Bryan , Texas based winery previously took home this award for its Johannisberg Riesling in 2005, and its Paulo Meritage Bordeaux blend in 2004. The Top Wine of Texas award is one of five Grand Champion/Best of Show-type of awards given at the HLSR Wine Show.

The Top Wine of Texas will be auctioned at the third annual Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Wine Auction on Saturday, March 4 at Reliant Center. The high bid, is anyone's guess! Last year, a nine-liter bottle of Messina Hof's Johannisberg Riesling went for $28,000.  The Houston Livestock Show &Rodeo's auction is one of the top-10 wine auctions in the country raising more than one million dollars in 2005.
